Nicolas Presents at Standford Geothermal Workshop

Nicolas Cardenas Acevedon presented his research on modeling microseismicity in Enhanced Geothermal Systems: impact of injection parameters at Utah FORGE, at the 2026 Stanford Geothermal Workshop.

His simulation work shows that the maximum magnitude of induced seismicity does not increase with injection rate when a standard Mohr-Coulomb Friction Model is used for pre-existing fractures, which attracts discussion with the microseismicity community.

My research interests include novel rock breakage and fracture for subsurface resource recovery, data-driven and physics-based multiphysics modeling in porous and fractured media, and granular material flow characterization and modeling. My research provides solutions for energy/minerals recovery & storage, material handling, and GeoHazards prediction.
